Liquid Silicone Hardness Guide: Shore A Scale & Selection Tips
The hardness of liquid silicone is usually measured by Shore A hardness. The lower the number, the softer the silicone; the higher the number, the harder it is. When choosing, just pick based on your mold structure, demolding difficulty, and usage scenario!
Shore A Hardness Ranges & Best Uses
Ultra-Soft (0–10A): Super flexible, perfect for small items with fine patterns, deep grooves, or many undercuts—like handcrafted figures, detailed reliefs, candles, and chocolates. Demolding won’t damage the mold, but it has weak support.
Medium-Soft (10–20A): The all-purpose choice! It’s tough and tear-resistant, ideal for resin ornaments, gypsum, cement products, and epoxy resin molds. This is the most commonly used range.
Medium Hardness (20–30A): Stiff and non-deformable, great for large sculptures, cultural bricks, waistlines, and antique bricks. Demolding is smooth, and it’s highly durable.
High Hardness (Above 30A): Hard with strong support, suitable for simple, undercut-free flat molds—such as cultural stones, brick carvings, and industrial models.
Simple Selection Rhyme
For small, detailed pieces: choose soft silicone. For large, general items: go for medium-soft. For simple, undercut-free pieces: pick harder silicone. Also, pay attention to tear resistance—for soft silicone, opt for high tear-resistant versions to make it more durable and less likely to tear.
